The house that stood alone in the middle of a new highway in China has been demolished. The owners, Luo Baogen and his wife, have finally agreed to take 260,000 yuan as compensation.

Luo was first approached by the government to sell his just completed 600,000 yuan house for the standard 220,000 yuan. The 260,000 yuan deal was offered last week. Village chief Chen suggested that the unwanted media attention was a factor in Luo’s decision to concede to the deal.
