Pregnancy, the burden of love
By: Daniel Otero
I guess I’m not the biggest promoter of women getting pregnant. Because of what pregnancy does to the body. But in reality it is to help and promote a continuation of the species.
Most do it for love, and whether it’s for pain or pleasure, women continue to bring babies into the world. This is the undeniable truth. Till science and medicine come out with a better solution or method the help share the burden between male and female, women are stuck with it!
I’d like to talk about what pregnancy does not only to her health, but her career. She can have the most sparkling job; which goes literally up like champagne! A woman can be the master communicator and out do others excellently in the work space. A woman gets pregnant and suddenly her life changes! Everything is turned upside down!
These are not the changing of times and people. It’s that things have always been this way! Thank goodness these issues are now discussed in open forum, people write about women and gestation, and there are laws to protect females’ rights!
Now the attitude in companies in the Western World and China is to allow for women to have maternity leave. However, once her maternity leave is over, things get a little sticky when she comes back. Because there’s no guarantee that her job will be waiting for her once she returns to work! Can a professional woman say she can go back to where she left off? I don’t think so!
I’ve seen in my life, women discriminated against. Before, during the pregnancy and after she has given birth. There are situations, though no fault of her own, when she even has to take a demotion for the company to save money. Sadly, this is just one of the cases and it’s an unfair truth which most women face in the job market!
The professional world is driven by men and women with a competitive edge. These people are career driven and won’t easily let go of their jobs!
Definitely, the majority of men don’t understand this, since they don’t have to carry a baby and they just make them! Especially corporate bosses will often give little concern or rights to these issues. Therefore, they honestly don’t care!
Remember the old-American adage, “Time is money!”; however, it shouldn’t be this way.
I’d say, “Time is humanity!”
If only people understood the struggles of working mothers!
The better a company treats any person, the greater they’ll perform. The longer they’ll stay!
Maternity leave isn’t a loss, but a win, an investment in the future and to possibly retain an excellent employee.
Because not only bosses hinder on the growth of women who come back from maternity leave, but so happens, colleagues and subordinates are ‘bucking’ for her position!
That’s why I called this piece, ‘Pregnancy, the burden of love’. Because, if not for love or to start a family, then what other reasons are we here for?
